What I want to be when I grow up.

I remember growing up wanting to be so many different things in life. I went from astronaut to teacher to on field sports reporter. My drive and work ethic have always been a consistent in my world, but as a 30 year old professional I’d like to change my answer!

I’ve come to realize that when I grow up I want to be just like my eight year old daughter, Izzy.

Throughout the last year she’s been exposed and presented with a magnitude of unique situations and experiences. All of which have caused an over abundance of emotions. Between mentally handicap classmates, a best friend with a medical diagnosis she knows nothing about, bullying, death and the daily struggle of being a child growing up into today’s world, she’s handled every situation with dignity, grace and a heart full of sunshine.

I’ve overheard her say things like:

– “It’s ok, everyone different”

– ” That doesn’t make you weird, we are all weird”

– “Why can’t people just be nice”

– “You have to be nice, because you don’t know what someone else is going through”

Not a single one of those moments have been provoked by me or anyone else. It’s just her true words and feelings and in those moments I am reminded that I need to be more like her.

My hope and my daily prayer as a mom is that my girls are the nice ones. That people look at them and see a different light and a true expression of kindness. I know that right now when I look at Izzy she is the epitome of exactly what I want to be when I grow up.

I would challenge you this week to look at those kids in your life and see the positivity and difference in them? What do you want to be when you grow up?

It’s ok to not be ok!

I try my hardest to be an optimistic, people pleasing do gooder in this life. Most days I fail at this miserably but it’s the thought that counts, right?

Between two kids and their activities, working full time with an hour commute, and the rest of life, gosh I just consistently feel like my tank is running low. Heck more like running on fumes. Am I the only one on this daily struggle bus? Continue reading “It’s ok to not be ok!”

Life, Motherhood

It’s been a long time.

It’s been a long time glad to see your face, I knew we’d be together another time another place.

Jo Dee Messina, while not my normal go to for advice she’s got some great words in this song. I’ve been pretty MIA on my blog since the passing of my mom in July 2017. My mom being the person who made me brave, pushed me out of my comfort zone and always believed I was destined for more was now gone. I wasn’t aware until almost a year after her passing how truly different my life would be.

You of course know that I’m the momma of two precious little girls. Two little girls who I now realize will grow up without one of the most important people in their lives. I’ve since that terrible day in July made a promise to those girls to keep my moms memory alive, to tell them about all the things that made her amazing and to always answer questions about their Memaw.

Jo Dee Messina says it’s a beautiful day, not a cloud in sight – so I guess I’m doing alright. I know my mom would say the same thing and would encourage me to use this as a platform to make people brave, push people out of their comfort zones and always believe people are destined for more.

I’m excited to be back on my blog and talk soon.

Juice Talk with Isabella

With school being out for the summer, Isabella will be spending her days at the YMCA Summer Camp. I love this camp because they are outdoors playing ALL day long. Raising kids that enjoy the outdoors is a big deal for us. Poor kid is absolutely exhausted in the mornings though, so I’ve been working with her on how to wake herself up in the mornings and not be such a Grumpy Gus. Beach/Pool Day Essentials for Baby

It’s hard to think that we are halfway through 2017! Memorial Weekend is gone and we are sailing right into the summer season. We spend a lot of time in the water during these hot summer days, and we have no plans of changing that tradition with a new baby.

We have made our list of essential baby needs to enjoy our summer on the water, while still keeping everyone safe and happy Continue reading “Beach/Pool Day Essentials for Baby”

Be a Mom That Works Out.

Being a busy mom can easily become an excuse to cut workouts out of your routine. I however strongly encourage you to stick with it. Exercise has been linked to fighting everything from cancer to diabetes. I’m a full-time mommy and event manager that commutes over an hour one way, but have found that making my workouts a priority is a must for my attitude and well-being. I have found that I am setting a better example for my girls by being committed to my health and wellness.

You don’t have to spend hours in the gym, you truly don’t have time for that. Supersetting my workouts has become the most successful tactic for me. Supersetting is when you switch back and forth between two different exercises. My muscles react better and I get through my workouts more quickly.

I am happy to share with you some go to plans for me. Continue reading “Be a Mom That Works Out.”

Juice Talk with Isabella

This week has been such a fun and busy week for Isabella! She’s had parties, celebration days, award assemblies and field day. While participating in field day activities, her poor little hand got run over by a scooter. The injury made her cry and some of the other students laughed at her. While the thought of someone laughing at her boiled my blood, I decided to use that experience as a teachable moment.

This week on Juice Talk with Isabella: How to deal with bullies Continue reading “Juice Talk with Isabella”
